The infected glands pass clinically through stages from uniform soft enlargement at first discrete, soon becoming matted by periadenitis, to caseation, softening, liquefaction, involvement by the tuberculous process in turn of fascia, muscle and skin, secondary staphylococcal infection, abscess formation (often the typical ' collar-stud ' abscess), rupture, sinus formation, and tuberculous involvement of the skin.
